What are you going to do?
We are on a mission to revolutionize our business landscape, including revitalizing our Schedule Planning and Control systems. Therefor data and technology go hand in hand. Business Platform Integral Planning & Control enables a multi-disciplinary team of teams to create our flight schedule, from inception to Day Of Operation and beyond. Learning from past performance, we build the complex calculations engines and tools required to balance commercial aspects and operational robustness. On the Day of Operation, we solve today's disruptions before they become tomorrow's problems.
As a (Senior) Domain Architect (designated within KLM as “Platform Architect”), you will be instrumental in guiding the architectural evolution of the platform. Your primary responsibility is to establish and execute a comprehensive vision for the IT domain, elevating its maturity and aligning it with the broader enterprise objectives. While technical innovation and solution design are important, your primary focus is to lead, shape, and nurture the domain’s architectural strategy. You will play a critical role in defining architectural principles, ensuring alignment with enterprise-wide goals, and fostering coherence across engineering teams.
The Domain Architect’s role includes defining a clear, future-ready architectural vision for the domain and ensuring that all teams within the platform adhere to this unified direction. You will construct and maintain a platform target architecture roadmap, oversee the development of technical capabilities, and identify opportunities for domain growth and maturity. By embedding enterprise architecture principles into the platform’s operational and developmental processes, you will act as a key influencer for both current and future development trajectories.
Key Responsibilities:
Vision and Leadership:
• Develop, maintain, and execute a strategic vision for the Integral Planning & Control domain, focusing on continuous improvement and domain maturity.
• Define and advocate for architectural themes, epics, and roadmaps that contribute to the evolution of the domain and ensure alignment with KLM’s broader business objectives.
• Act as a thought leader and advocate for architectural coherence, driving domain maturity and domain integrity in collaboration with senior stakeholders.
Governance and Alignment:
• Establish governance structures to ensure adherence to architectural principles and ensure domain teams are working towards shared goals.
• Ensure the alignment of domain architecture with the overarching enterprise architecture and contribute to shaping enterprise-wide principles.
• Drive decision-making processes, ensuring that architectural decisions align with the enterprise's long-term strategic direction and operational goals.
Capability Development:
• Oversee and support the development of technical capabilities required for domain maturity, including identifying key technological enablers and critical system components.
• Facilitate the identification of reusable capabilities and services that can be leveraged across the platform to promote efficiency and reduce redundancy.
Collaboration and Stakeholder Management:
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, senior leaders, and third-party vendors to ensure a well-integrated and forward-thinking domain architecture.
• Engage with business and technology leaders to define the strategic vision for the domain and build alignment around a shared path forward
Your profile
We are looking for a visionary leader with strong analytical and strategic thinking skills, capable of setting and driving the architectural agenda for a complex IT domain. Your experience and expertise will enable you to design and lead a cohesive and forward-looking architectural strategy that brings together various stakeholders, drives platform maturity, and ensures alignment with broader enterprise goals. Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain complex architectural concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders alike are essential.
Key Qualifications:
- Demonstrated experience in leading domain-level architecture, with a focus on vision setting, roadmap creation, and architectural governance.
- Proven track record of driving maturity in a complex IT domain, influencing both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Expertise in designing scalable, distributed systems that support mission-critical operational processes.
- Experience aligning architecture with enterprise principles and influencing enterprise-wide strategy.
- 5+ years of experience in IT architecture, preferably in a development-driven environment, with experience guiding domain development and architectural maturity.
- Deep understanding of architectural principles and best practices in system design, business process integration, and platform development.
- Strong technical background, including:
- API design and management
- Domain-driven design
- Serverless and microservice architectures
