Flight KL691, made possible in part by you, the data science lead. Whether it involves threat assessments of flying over conflict areas or supporting crisis management in emergency situations, your solutions will play a vital role in helping KLM to stay one of the safest airlines in the world. 

What are you going to do?

You will be working at one of our business platforms in Data & Technology. Here we build applications for our crew that process results using NLP and we develop machine learning models to support the business in the assessment of a wide range of risks. You will have access to an abundance of data, with plenty of untapped opportunities, which means you will have a direct impact on the safety & security of our KLM operation.  

Important aspects of the job: 

  • Automate everything: use your unique skills to transform the way we work using data (reduce manual assessments, improve classification accuracy, improve our data management, you can initiate the change!); 
  • Freedom Friday’s: You are encouraged and expected to spend 10% of your time with us learning new things, doing research and developing yourself; You can do this by taking courses, exploring innovative technologies, improving processes, or doing cool hack-projects with your colleagues!;
  • Grow & foster your team: You are the manager of a team of Data Scientists and Data Analysts. As such you are responsible for the quality and performance of their contribution to the teams and for their well-being and job satisfaction while still having plenty of time to be hands-on;
  • Innovate & Inspire: You are a member of the Platform Leadership Team. You support the Director of Technology to identify and implement innovative technologies, and you advise the Director of Product and business owners in determining new Data Science opportunities.

Where do you land?

As a Data Science Lead in our Business Platform Safety, Security & Crisis Management (SSC), you will be an integral part of shaping the future of KLM and the aviation industry. You will be the sparring partner of the Director of Technology and you will work closely with software engineers, fellow data scientists, data analysts, product owners and operations experts to create innovative solutions. You will have the flexibility to work from the Operations Control Center (where our customers are located), our SSC office, or from the comfort of your own home. Most importantly, you'll have the opportunity to collaborate with a team of highly skilled, ambitious, and helpful colleagues! 

Your profile

You love complex problems and enjoy solving them even more. You are not afraid of change and can challenge the status quo. In fact, you want to constantly inspire people & improve our services. You speak various programming languages, but also enjoy coaching and guiding data scientists. As you often work in teams on a project, it is important that you can work well together with all types of disciplines. 

You bring along: 
 

  • You are an expert, with minimum of 8 years experience in Data science / Operations Research / Machine Learning;
  • You have up-to-date knowledge on state-of-the-art technologies and industry best practices, and you are experienced in applying data science in a business context;
  • Experience in data management, visualization & ML Ops is a pre; 
  • You have a strong agile mind set, you lead by example and promote and stimulate empowerment of teams and people;
  • You act as a subject matter expert to peers and management;
  • You can think and act tactically but also to initiate and implement change;
  • You have soft skills to inspire, motivate and coach the people in your team and beyond;
  • You are fluent in English and/ or Dutch;
  • You are passionate about aviation and have a desire to drive innovation in the industry.

 

We offer

  • A gross salary between €6.649,11 and €9.498,73 per month;
