From AI and IoT to robotics and augmented reality, we explore a wide spectrum of innovations to enhance KLM’s operations and customer experience. The Innovation Engineer plays a hands-on role in finding, evaluating, and prototyping new technologies that could redefine airline processes and services. This role is ideal for a tech enthusiast who loves getting into the nitty-gritty of both software and hardware while being involved in the creative exploration of new solutions.
What are you going to do?
As an Innovation Engineer, you’ll be deeply embedded in the tech innovation journey at KLM. You will:
- Scout and Evaluate: Actively search for and evaluate new technologies, assessing their potential to impact our operations and customer experience.
- Prototype Development: Design and build software and/or hardware prototypes to test the feasibility and value of new technologies.
- Collaborate with Teams: Work alongside other innovation professionals and cross-functional teams to identify real-world applications for emerging tech.
- Feedback and Refine: Gather insights from initial prototypes and refine solutions based on feedback from stakeholders and testing results.
- Stay Ahead of Trends: Constantly monitor technology trends and developments to ensure BlueLabs remains at the forefront of industry innovation.
Your profile
We are looking for tech-driven individuals who thrive on exploring, testing, and bringing new ideas to life. The ideal candidate:
- Has hands-on experience with a variety of technologies—such as IoT, robotics, AI, connectivity solutions, tracking technology, or software engineering—and is eager to experiment with different types of tech. (Matching all areas is not required, but broader experience is a plus.)
- Is comfortable with prototyping using basic electronics, Raspberry Pi, Arduino, or other low-cost hardware for rapid testing and proof-of-concept creation.
- Is familiar with the innovation process in tech environments, with bonus points for experience in innovation labs or projects.
- Is comfortable working in both independent and team settings, contributing to an open, creative culture.
- Stays up-to-date on the latest technology trends and is eager to experiment with new approaches.
- Fluent in English and Dutch.
