You will be working as a DevOps Engineer in the Database Competence Center at KLM IT Operations, a multi-cultural team spread across our 4 IT locations in the Netherlands and France.
You ensure our planes are maintained, we can sell tickets, our passengers can check in and cargo is transported . As a KLM DevOps Engineer you will contribute to unforgettable flights.
Data is strategic for our group, its knowledge and use are determining factors for improving our performance in a strong competitive context. To do this, our database infrastructures must be efficient, secure, highly available, delivered in self-service mode, both in our private Cloud and in our public Clouds.
Working on our database infrastructure means being at the heart of the Cloud transformation of the Air France/KLM information system.

What are you going to do?

Within the Database Competence Center of the IT Operations department, organized into Agile teams, you will act as a technical expert on database products such as Oracle, PostgreSQL, MongoDB Atlas, Azure Cache (Redis), CosmosDB, FireStore and MemoryStore in a Linux environment, either in our on-premise datacenters or in our Clouds. 
You will contribute to the proper functioning and performance of these databases. You create and improve monitors, health checks, policies, pipelines etc. Together with the (lead) architects you determine the Roadmap of the department.
You will be responsible for designing, implementing, and managing the Cloud infrastructure and deployment pipelines for our applications and services. You will participate in the transformation of the Air France-KLM database landscape to the Cloud and support migrations of the on-premise environments to the Cloud.  With your proven experience, you advise your own team, as well as others, in making the right decisions.  

 

In more detail, your tasks will consist of: 

  • Carrying out technical studies and participate in innovation through the creation of new Cloud database services: technical architectures, choice and testing of technical solutions, implementation of solutions, technical migrations,
  • Providing support for operations and development actors in a DEVOPS approach, particularly around the performance of systems and applications,
  • Performing technical developments necessary for the operation and automation of the most common installation / administration / operation tasks,
  • Participating in 'task forces' and other continuous improvement cells following problems or production incidents applying your expertise. 
  • Collaborating with development teams to understand their requirements and provide guidance on designing scalable and secure Cloud architectures on GCP and Azure.
  • Building and maintaining Cloud infrastructure using Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) tools like Terraform.
  • Developing and implementing CI/CD pipelines to automate software builds, testing, and deployments.
  • Monitoring and optimizing the performance, availability, and cost efficiency of Cloud resources.
  • Ensuring security and compliance best practices are followed in the Cloud environment.
  • Troubleshooting and resolving infrastructure and deployment issues as they arise.
  • Staying up to date with the latest trends and technologies in DevOps and Cloud computing
  • Advising different stakeholders on new solutions and latest trends.

Where do you land?

The Database Competence Center is an international Agile Team spread across our 4 IT sites at Schiphol, Paris, Toulouse and Valbonne. You will be based at Schiphol. As we work in a hybrid mode, you will work partly from home and partly from the office. You will join a dynamic team with driven and experienced colleagues.

Your profile

Are you a talented and experienced DevOps Engineer combining senior database expertise with knowledge of Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and automation tools llike Terraform and Ansbile then you are the one we are looking for. As a DevOps Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and managing the cloud infrastructure and deployment pipelines for our applications and services.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with development teams to understand their requirements and provide guidance on designing scalable and secure cloud database architectures on GCP and Azure.
  • Build and maintain Cloud infrastructure using Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) tools like Terraform or CloudFormation.
  • Develop and implement CI/CD pipelines to automate software builds, testing, and deployments.
  • Monitor and optimize the performance, availability, and cost efficiency of Cloud resources.
  • Ensure security and compliance best practices are followed in the Cloud environment.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve infrastructure and deployment issues as they arise.
  • Stay up to date with the latest trends and technologies in DevOps and Cloud computing
  • Advise PM, PO’s, TA's and management according to new solutions and latest trends.


Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or master’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
  • Experience in designing and managing Cloud infrastructure on Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and Microsoft Azure.
  • Proficiency in using infrastructure automation tools like Terraform and Ansible
  • Extemsive knowledge of (a subset of) database platforms Oracle, PostgeSQL, MongoDB, REDIS, CosmosDB
  • You are rigorous, with a good capacity for analysis and synthesis,
  • You have a sense of the customer and the desired result, you are passionate about the technical aspects of information systems, you are able to evolve towards other areas or functions within IT.
  • You have a constant curiosity that will allow you to imagine tomorrow's solutions for developing AFKL computing.
  • You are fluent in the use of the English language. The AF/KL context requires good intercultural sensitivity, travel to France and the Netherlands is to be expected.
  • You are open-minded, attentive, you have a taste for teamwork, and a certain ease for verbal and written communication.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Relevant certifications in Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and Microsoft Azure.
  • Experience with hybrid Cloud environments and integrating on-premises infrastructure with public Cloud services.
  • Familiarity with configuration management tools like Ansible.
  • Knowledge of monitoring and logging tools.
  • Understanding of networking concepts and experience with virtual networks, VPNs, and firewalls.
