The perfect turnaround

At Ground Services, everything is measured according to our turnaround. This is the time between the moment the doors of a recently landed plane are opened and the moment the doors are closed ready for departure. Together with your colleagues you ensure that our planes are ready to depart with all passengers and luggage on board. Safely and within the set norm. You might say it is the perfect pit stop.

Your next destination

The jobs in Ground Services fall into two categories: ‘above’ and ‘below’ the wing. The former will include gate agents and lounge employees and the latter qualified professionals in the luggage halls and on the platform, such as loaders and tug service employees. All of them colleagues with their own talents and skills. Whatever your choice, your job with us is never boring. Such a dynamic airport doesn’t get dull! Do you remain calm when it gets really busy, in bad weather or when schedules are disrupted? Are you customer oriented, whatever the situation? In that case, we look forward to welcoming you on board at Ground Services.

Meet the crew

Amal Zaïd, shiftleader Passenger Services

‘On a busy day, I can easily walk 15 kilometres across the airport'

‘I operate in three areas: overseeing KLM operations, managing my team and leading projects with the aim of continuous improvement. It is precisely this variation which never bores me. Passenger flows, delays, check-ins, transits or COVID restrictions: the numbers, pressure and circumstances differ every day and require a custom made approach. I do so with a big smile, every day.’

Ed van Schooten, processs manager Apron Services

‘You can be a process manager anywhere but the dynamic world at Schiphol is very unique. Here, the world literally passes by: aircraft, crew and passengers from around the globe.'

Ed van Schooten began his KLM career at Catering Services and now improves platform processes, for example, for the new Embraer 195-E2. 'The arrival of a new type of aircraft enables you to really re-design the process.' Want to learn more about Eds journey?

Johnny Sommer, Team coordinator Apron Services

'Hard work, but I love it!’

Johnny leads a team of platform employees and together they ensure that the airplane turnarounds are carried out correctly. 'Catering, luggage, refueling and towing service: all components have to be in place on time and to leave on time.
If there are no hitches I’ve got an easy job. However, in reality something always happens which means you have to switch: the flight is delayed, a diversion on the platform, bad weather. By keeping a cool head at such moments we ensure that the airplane is still able to depart on time. Hard work, but I love it.'

Farish Jankipersad, Team coordinator Bagage Services

‘The spirit within the team is truly outstanding!’

‘Everyone makes an effort to get all the luggage out on time. Especially if there is a disruption, for example due to bad weather; then we really go for it. It’s extremely important that your bag arrives on time. We all know that, don't we? We make it happen for the passenger.’
